Goju Ryu
Goju Ryu is one of the primary styles of Okinawa Karate. It was developed by a famous Japanese Martial Artist Chojun Miyagi who was influenced by his early sensei a Naha-te Master.
Goju Ryu is a style of Karate that translates to hard/soft style because of its hard and soft techniques.
Chojun Miyagi is responsible for found the style known as Goju Ryu. He studied under Sensei Kanryo Higashionna in the style of Chinese Boxing as well as Shaolin Chuan, under a kung fu master. At that time, Karate was not commonly used to describe the style Higashionna practiced. His style was known as Naha-te, named after the village of Naha, Okinawa.
Miyagi Chojun began studying under Higashionna at an early age. After a few years of training, Sensei Higashionna died and Miyagi left for China and continued studying martial arts for several years. Upon returning to Naha Okinawa, many of Higashionna's students seeked Miyagi to continue training under him.
In 1930, Miyagi finally gave his martial art an offical name. From that day forward his style would be known as Goju Ryu Karate.
Goju Ryu consists of hard kicks and punches with circular techniques for blocks and controlling your opponent.
