Judo
Judo is a martial art that does not use any form of punching or kicking. Instead, Judo makes use of throws, joint locks, chokes, sweeps, and submission techniques.
Judo, was founded by Jigoro Kano in 1882 and became the model for modern Japanese martial arts. Kano was trained in the art of JuJutsu, he removed many of the lethal techniques and started to develop his own style.
Judo was introduced to Brazil in the early 1900's by Mitsuyo Maeda. Mitsuyo taught Japanese Judo to Carlos Gracie, who's family, the Gracie Clan, is currently very well known for their Brazilian Ju Jitsu training.
Judo became an olympic sport in 1964 and a sport for women as well in 1988.
As a Judo fighter, your objective is to throw your opponent on his back, pin him on his back, or force him to submit by using a choke or arm lock. You will then be awarded 1 point for doing so which is called ippon.
If you happen to land your opponent any other way then on his back you will be awarded either half a point, or no point at all.
I'm sure you have watched UFC before. There are many fighters who are trained in Brazilian Ju Jitsu, now you know that it was developed from Judo.
