Jujitsu

JujutsuJujitsu, also called Jujutsu, is an ancient Japanese martial art that utilizes various techniques to defend yourself against an opponent.

This martial art style is characterized by hand/foot strikes, throws, sweeps, blocks, joint locks, and  ground-fighting/grappling skills.

In Japan, Jujutsu is a term that is used to describe all the Japanese martial arts such as Jujutsu, Judo, Aikido, Hapkido, and so on.

Other martial arts such as Judo and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu which are very popular today, were derived from Jujutsu.

It is said that the history of Jujutsu dates back to a warrior, Nomi no Sekuni of Izumo, who used striking, throwing, and restraining techniques to kill his opponent Tajima no Kehaya.

SamuraiSaumurais trained in grappling systems as well as their swordsmanship because they needed to be capable of defending themselves in situations where they were unarmed against an enemy who was heavily armed.

The original Japanese Jujutsu style was reformed by Master Jigoro Kano to ensure a safer training environment in schools.

The Japanese government sought out Jigoro Kano to do this because of the many fatalaties that occured during Jujutsu sparring.
