ZangiefSambo is a Russian grappling martial art that was developed in the former Soviet Union.

Sambo, Judo, Greco-Roman Wrestling, and Freestyle Wrestling are the four main forms of amateur competetive wrestling practiced internationally.

A famous character that you might remember who practices in the style of Sambo is Zangief from Street Fighter 2 Turbo.

A Sambo practicioner usually wears a red or blue jacket called a "kurtka" as well as a belt, shorts of the same color, and Sambo shoes called "sambovki."

3 Forms of Sambo

Combat Sambo - This type of Sambo was utilized by the Russian Military soldiers. They were trained with weapons, disarming techniques, striking, and grappling.

Sport Sambo - Similar to Judo and amateur wrestling. Sport Sambo allows leg locks in competition but not chokeholds.

Self Defense Sambo - This variation is similar to Aikido or Jujitsu. It is based on defending against attacks by both armed and unarmed attackers.
