Tea and Health

TeaSo, what is it that makes Tea so good for you? It is these unique substances called Catechin Polyphenols, (or Flavanoids). The active component is called Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG).

Studies have shown that EGCG is a stronger antioxidant than vitamins C and E, which makes it a highly studied compound in Green Tea. *Green Tea has also been shown to be effective in lowering cholesterol, regulate blood sugar level, prevent cavities, and aid in digestion. The list of health benefits just keep going!

Green TeaMaking Green Tea a part of your daily lifestyle may help you burn more calories. Why do you think the Chinese and Japanese are so healthy and never get fat, no matter what or how much they eat?”

A study released by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 1999 published the results of a study performed at the University of Geneva in Switzerland.  Swiss researchers found that men who were given a combination of caffeine and green tea extract burned more calories than those given only caffeine or a placebo. It's never too late to start drinking green tea with a healthy lifestyle to shed some extra weight and reap the health benefits as well.

We all know that too much of anything is not recommended. I would say that drinking any type of tea in moderation would be your best bet. Though claims have been made that people should drink up to 10 cups of tea a day, we do not have a definite answer for this.

A University of California study concluded that drinking 2 cups of tea a day is enough to reach the desired levels of polyphenols. Either way, drinking 3-4 cups of Green Tea a day is probably a safe number. If you are really a tea fiend like myself then drinking 3 or more cups a day would probably be fine. One thing that would probably be a negative of drinking too much tea would be insomnia due to the amount of caffeine that tea contains but then again it is still less than the amount coffee has.

You should always check with a doctor to before you go on any type of supplemenation or regime.
