Wing Chun
Wing Chun is a Chinese martial art that stresses the technique of short range combat.
Wing Chun style is based on human biomechanics rather than animal movements, using primarily straight line, fast, direct strikes and sophisticated simultanous blocking and striking techniques, redirecting the force of an opponent rather than attempting to meet such possibly greater force directly.
The skills aquired from practicing Wing Chun are very practical and effective rather that just looking good.
Most strikes are intentionally fatal and target areas of the body that are most vulnerable such as the eyes, throat, groin, and stomach. The Wing Chun style is mainly based upon the concept of striking your target on the centerline with powerful punches and kicks.
Wing Chun techniques are to be executed using the least amount of force in a fighting situation. The idea behind this is that small movements that are properly timed and positioned can be used to defeat large movements. This is achieve by developing strong body structure, balance, and relaxation skills.
Defelection and counter-attacks are preferred over hard blocking to conserve movements and engergy. A key principle in Wing Chun is called "intercepting fist."
This concept incorporates a block and punch at the same time, or blocking an attack with a punch. By blocking with a punch, your opponents attack is automatically deflected by the arm structure as the counter punch is delivered simultaneously to your opponent.
The Wing Chun punch is fast, direct, and follows the straight line concept. It is delivered from the guard position with the hands held in front of the chest, instead of pulling the arm back like a conventional punch.
Kicks that are used in Wing Chun are the roundhouse, front, and stamping kick. They are delivered in a fast and direct movement right from the stance without any winding up.
The front kick is performed by keeping your body square and kicking vertically.
The roundhouse is similar to the Muay Thai style kick because you utilize the pivoting method and put your body into the motion of the strike to deliver a powerful low line kick.
The stamping kick is used when in close range with your opponent as well as sweeping with the heel in a circular motion.
